Your bridal bouquet is an important accessory for your wedding day. When else do you get to carry a beautiful bunch of flowers designed especially for you, all day long?! Each of the types of bouquets will help the bride say something different.

Having said that, it’s all your once in a lifetime moments on that very day. So there must be a bunch of questions in all your heads.

What flowers should you include in your bouquet? What colours/shapes work best with your dress? How big should your bouquet be? And how are you supposed to hold your bouquet?!

To help answer those questions, we are thrilled to share some useful tips and advice on choosing your bridal bouquet.
1) When to select the bridal bouquet?
Try to choose your wedding dress before your bridal bouquet. The design of your bouquet is dependent on the style, shape and detail of your wedding gown. It should complement the overall look that you want to achieve for the wedding. The key to bridal bouquet design is that it doesn’t drown you, takes the attention away from you or hide the silhouette of the gown.

2) How to choose the flowers and colors?
One thing to note when selecting the type of flowers/colours, some flowers just aren’t available at certain times of the year (or are very expensive) so make sure you take this into consideration when choosing which flowers you’d like for the bridal bouquet. Do not opt for a trailing bouquet if the feature detail of your dress is on the skirt, but if you have a long train at the back of your dress you might want to balance the look with a more dramatic bouquet.

There are so many different shades for the flowers, we can help recommend the right type of bloom to work well with the colour of your dress, and to compliment your bridesmaid’s dresses. You would also want it to match well with your overall wedding theme, if you have any. Or if you have your favourite flowers, you’d want them to be part of your big day too.

3) What are some of the popular wedding flowers?
Roses – The flower of romance, is definitely on the top of the list. And, each color represents different meanings. For example, red for love and romance, White for purity and happy love, Pink for perfect happiness, Yellow for promise of a new beginning.
Calla Lily – This elegant, trumpet-shaped blossom symbolizes “magnificent beauty” in the language of flowers. Creamy ivory is the most popular color, but calla lilies also come in yellow, orange, mauve-pink, and dark purple.
Gerberas – Because they signify cheerfulness, gerberas are often chosen for celebratory occasions such as weddings. there are lots of colour varieties to match your wedding.

4) How to maintain the flowers until the wedding itself?
In Singapore, most brides collect the bridal bouquet a day before the wedding. What you need to do to maintain these flowers are very simple. Put them in fresh water, just covering the bottom part of the stem and place in air-conditioned room. The flowers will be able to last until your big day.

5) How to hold the bridal bouquet?
Most brides tend to hold their bouquet with two hands and carry it quite high which immediately lifts the shoulders up. This tends not to make a great picture, particularly if you are wearing a strapless dress.

Here’s how you can do it right, hold your bouquet in one hand and below your hip, slightly away from your dress, so that you can see the silhouette of your dress. This will relax and open your shoulders, improving your posture and creating the best pose for your photographer!
